History of Alpina watches

In 1883 Gottlieb Hauser he united independent Swiss watch makers. In 1901 the name Alpina was registered and already in 1920 Alpina watches were being sold in more than 2000 shops world wide.
The brand has always been a very sporty brand and still today Alpina manufactures extremely reliable professional watches with the five Alpina principles in mind. The brand still produces its own movements. Each watch is hand assembled by higly skilled watch makers in the factory in Plan-les-Ouates, near Geneva in Switzerland.

The name Alpina derives from the Alps and the men that conquered those mountains: Alpinists. These men had five principles: they were perseverant, thought independently, trusted their instincts, stretched themselves to their limits and - last but not least - never forgot their "Swiss" roots. Gottlieb Hauser had these five principles in mind when he founded Alpina and these principles are still applied to every Alpina watch.

Foremost Alpina watch collections

The Alpina watch cllection consists of three major lines:

Alpiner

The name of this line dates back to the 1950's when a watch was released with four main sporty features: Anti-shock, anti-magnetic, water-resistant and stainless steel case. Of course all the watches in this line have these four features.

Startimer

In the 1920's Alpina was one of the major producer of (military) pilot watches. In this line all watches pay tribute to the watches that were used by those pilots to navigate around the world.

Seastrong

In 1969 the Alpina released the Seastrong. A professional automatic diving watch water resistant to 200 meters. The watches in this line are more than 200 meters (20 bar/atm) water resistant.
